Point Methods

Understanding the point method

For interclubs there are 2 methods to calculate points (this is defined by the "Point method" parameter). This parameter defines how points are earned by teams during interclub meetings.

Available Point Methods

Performance (Team4 - 3/3/2/1/0)

This method awards points based on the margin of victory:

  • 3 points: 3-1, 4-0 victory (clear victory)
  • 2 points: 2-2 victory on sets (when there's a tie in matches but advantage on sets)
  • 1 point: 2-2 defeat on sets (when there's a tie in matches but lost on sets) or perfect tie (matches and sets)
  • 0 points: 1-3, 0-4 (heavy defeat)

Encouraging (Team3 - 4/3/2/1)

This method encourages participation by awarding points even for defeats:

  • 4 points: 3-0 victory (perfect victory)
  • 3 points: 2-1 victory (narrow victory)
  • 2 points: 1-2 defeat (honourable defeat)
  • 1 point: 0-3 defeat (heavy defeat)

Performance (Team3 - 3/2/1/0) - "1 match won = 1 point"

This straightforward method awards points based on matches won:

  • 3 points: 3-0 victory (perfect victory)
  • 2 points: 2-1 victory (narrow victory)
  • 1 point: 1-2 defeat (honourable defeat)
  • 0 points: 0-3 defeat (heavy defeat)

Straight Victory (Team3 - 3/3/0/0)

This method rewards victories equally regardless of the score:

  • 3 points: 3-0 victory (perfect victory)
  • 3 points: 2-1 victory (narrow victory)
  • 1 point: 1-2 defeat (honourable defeat)
  • 0 points: 0-3 defeat (heavy defeat)

Choosing the Right Method

The point method you choose will depend on your competition goals:

  • Performance methods reward teams for clear victories and strong performance
  • Encouraging method ensures all teams earn points, promoting participation
  • Straight Victory simplifies scoring by treating all victories equally
